Rivian CEO says CarPlay isn’t going to happen

Jess Weatherbed on her piece for the verge:

Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe tells The Verge that he wants his company, not Apple, to control its ecosystem

Understandable

most consumers will only consider purchasing vehicles that support CarPlay

This is true for car makers which software is crap -which is, most of them-. This may not be true for car makers who also put good software on their cars. This may be the case for Rivian.

Also, as consumers I don't think we all want to have the same look and feel on our iPhones, and our cars, and more so if we have more than one car, or a car and a van.

CarPlay is wonderful because it puts good software on bad car computers and makes them bearable, sometimes even good.

But I think most people would prefer a more cohesive and custom experience for their car than what CarPlay currently offers.

That is, until CarPlay 2 goes mainstream, which we've seen on WWDC24.
